Stipend offer

There will be two PhD students (for 4 years) and one post-doc (for 2 years) employed in the project SONATA BIS. They will join the tear film research team of bioengineers, biochemists, ophthalmologists and optometrists led by prof. Dorota Szczesna-Iskander. The team will contribute to the development of a predictive model of post-cataract course of events focusing on tear film and ocular surface parameters and metrics. The PhD candidate will also join the PhD training at Wroclaw University of Science and Technology (WUST) conducted at the interdisciplinary Doctoral School. Within the Doctoral School the training of essential skills and aptitude to prepare PhD students to conduct high-profile research at academic institutions, research centres, and industries will be provided.

 

Key PhD topics include:

  • Objective assessment of the tear film dynamics during an iatroginicaly induced Dry Eye Disease.
  • Development of newer metrics that will be crucial in obtaining a better diagnosis and monitoring of the DED
  • Gaining new knowledge about the effect of cataract surgery (CS) on ocular surface and the risk factors that predispose to develop the disease after surgeries

Profile of candidates:

  • Master in Physics/Optics, Master in Electrical/Electronic Engineering; master in Computer Sciences, Master in Biomedical Engineering or an equivalent Master degree
  • Computer programming skills; willingness of work with the patient in the clinic
  • Experience in working with a patient is very welcome
  • High motivation and willingness for hard work
  • Professional skills such as teamwork, scientific creativity and independent work
  • Fluent spoken and written Polish and/or English
